Safe and Welcoming Schools

Dear Lynn Public Schools Community,

As a school district committed to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all students, we want to reaffirm our dedication to protecting the rights and well-being of every child in our care. In light of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions across the country, we understand that some students and families may be experiencing anxiety or uncertainty. We want to assure you that our schools are places of learning, safety, and inclusion for all, regardless of immigration status.

In 2017, the Lynn School Committee adopted the Safe and Welcoming Sanctuaries for All Students Policy, which remains in effect. You can access the policy in Spanish here.

This policy ensures that schools are safe spaces for all students and that immigration status does not impact access to education. Our staff is committed to upholding this policy by prioritizing student safety, maintaining confidentiality, and following established protocols to support families who may be affected by immigration enforcement activities.

We also recognize the emotional toll that immigration-related concerns can have on students and their families. Our school clinicians and support staff are available to provide guidance, reassurance, and emotional support to any student in need. We encourage open communication and remind families that school staff members are here to listen and offer resources that can help navigate these challenges. The most powerful tools we can provide our students with is knowledge, understanding civil rights and access to supportive networks during these difficult times.

The Lynn Public Schools has developed and circulated procedures and training for staff. Including:

To further support our community, we are providing additional resources that may be helpful to families, including:

The documents above contain important information on legal rights, available services, and preemptive steps families can take to protect themselves. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school administration or the Superintendent’s Office.

We stand together as a community to protect and support all of our students. Thank you for your commitment to making our schools places where every child feels safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Thank you for your commitment to our students,
