Student safety is the utmost priority for the Lynn Public School Department. The Transportation Department is responsible for transporting students to and from their school safely. There are many safety policies in place to ensure safe transportation for the district’s students. It is our mission to provide open communication with parents and guardians while providing safe and reliable transportation service.
School departments across the country continue to experience staffing shortages since the pandemic. While we hope this improves as more people return to the workforce, it is important to be mindful of the challenges this shortage presents to the community. The Lynn Public Schools have safety measures in place while your student is in our care. An important part of this is the steps parents and guardians can take when placing their student(s) on or off the vehicle.
Safety Reminders
- Confirm with the driver that your student is on the vehicle roster.
-
Include a card in your child’s backpack with the following information:
- Child’s first and last name
- School name
- Parent’s first and last name
- Parent’s phone number
The start of a school year is always a busy and hectic time as students, families, schools, and bus drivers adjust to their routines. For new students, especially those boarding a vehicle for the first time, additional time may be needed as the child boards the vehicle. This can occasionally cause a bus route to be delayed.
Bus pick-up times are provided for all families but remain approximate due to traffic and other delays. All scheduled pick-up times have a 10-minute window before and after the scheduled time. Students must be prepared for the vehicle at least 10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. If the bus is more than 10 minutes late, please call the Transportation Department at 781-477-7220 ext. 1814 and our office will provide assistance.
Due to many necessary adjustments at the start of a new school year, busing accommodations may change as deemed necessary by our transportation vendors to best serve the Lynn Public School community. This could include changes in scheduled pick-up times, buses, and/or drivers.
Reminder: Parents/Guardians must submit an Alternate Transportation Form before every school year and/or summer program. Alternate pick-up and drop-off accommodations from the previous school year do not carry forward. For assistance, please contact the LPS Transportation Department.
