Instrumental Music & All-City Music Programs

Instrumental Music and All-City Music Programs at LPS:

The LPS All-City Instrumental Music Program provides Lynn students with a special opportunity to collaborate and learn together, extending beyond the music programs offered at their respective schools.

Elementary Instrumental Music:

Starting in 4th Grade, students may elect to take an instrument lesson during their school day. At this early level, students may select from Band Instruments (clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, flute, or percussion) or Orchestral String Instruments (violin, viola, cello). This weekly lesson will be in addition to their weekly General Music Class . At the end of the year, students from all 18 of our elementary schools perform together at the All-City Elementary Concert Series.

Middle School Instrumental Music:

The All-City Instrumental Program continues on through Middle School, with students receiving a weekly lesson on their instrument. Students attending Pickering, Breed, and Thurgood Marshall Middle Schools also participate in Band Ensemble Class or Orchestra Ensemble Class one day each week. This is in addition to General Music Classes they may take as part of their regular school curriculum.

Middle School Instrumental Students may also elect to join the All-City Band, All-City Orchestra, All-City Jazz Band, or All-City World Strings ensembles. Students who participate in these groups will be bused to a central location for combined rehearsals after school throughout the year. The student groups will perform at the annual All-City Concerts in late spring.

High School Instrumental Music:

Students from Lynn English High School or Classical High School can join the Band Ensemble Class, which meets during regular school hours and performs in school concerts and community events. Students who play Orchestral String Instruments like violin, viola, cello, or bass are also welcome in the Band Class.

At Lynn Vocational Tech, home to our newest High School Music Program, students can join the LVTI Music Club after school. The Music Club features various small ensembles performing together with a wide range of instruments and vocal styles. In the upcoming 2024-2025 School Year, Lynn Tech plans to introduce the Modern Band Class during regular school hours.

Within LPS, four All-City Ensembles are available at the High School Level: Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Orchestra. These groups rehearse at a central location several afternoons per week and showcase their talents at cultural events across Lynn. The All-City Marching Band performs at home games for all LPS High School Football Teams.

High School students in the after-school All-City Ensembles will also receive weekly instrument lessons during the school day.

If your child would like to participate in one of our Instrumental Programs, please contact the Music Teacher at your child’s school, or Music Director Julie Carroll, [email protected],  for more information.
